VonageVonage - The history of the broadband phone company Vonage and its place in today's market. Also details the services that this VoIP service provider offers.

Vonage an 911. Looks at the service Vonage an 911 offers and how it works. Also details of Vonage 911 service problems and Vonage being sued.

Vonage an 911

Vonage are one of the first companies to be able to offer a 911 dialling service through its VoIP service. However before you can use the 911 service, Vonage's 911 Dialing feature must be activated. To activate 911 Dialling you'll just have to fill out a short form during the sign up process that tells Vonage your street address. If you are an existing customer, you can activate 911 Dialling from the features section in your Vonage web account.

Vonage an 911.

With Vonage an 911 Dialling feature, they use the address you provide to determine the nearest emergency response center and then send your 911 calls to a general number at that center. When the center receives your call, the operator will not have your address and may not have your phone number on hand, so you must provide that information in order to get help.

Some local emergency response centers may not have live operators 24 hours a day. If Vonage learns that this is the case, they will send your call to a national emergency calling center instead and a trained agent will contact an emergency center near you to dispatch help.

Vonage an 911 Problems

There are however still some problems with the Vonage 911 Service and in fact Vonage are currently being sued because of faults in this service. A Texas Attorney General is suing the Vonage an 911 service for trouble with a 911 call.

The major selling point of the "IP phones" Vonage sell and service to back them, is that you can get rid of your landline phone and use their product to make your calls, routing the signal over your high-speed Internet connection. So it is a major problem for Vonage if consumers don't have enough confidence in the Vonage an 911 service to dispense with their landline.
